JAMES THOMAS COUCH was born

He is the son of JAMES and ISABEL COUCH.

MARTHA GOLDSTON was born about 1838.

Her place of birth and her
parents names are still unknown.



Residence


Thomas moved from Hardin County, Tennessee to Lamar County, Texas sometime between 1860-1870. That is where he remained for the rest of his life.



Marriages


James and Martha were married about 1860
probably in Texas.


He married the second time after Martha died
to Mahala J. Davis on 13 Sept 1881
in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.



Children


Only four of the children born from James Couch and Martha Goldston have been found so far:


1.  CATHERINE ISABELL COUCH

Born 21 October 1865 in Lamar County, Texas.

She married David S. Grimes in Texas.

She died 9 June 1950 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas.

She's buried in the Fairview Cemetery.



2.  CHARLES T. COUCH

Born 26 January 1869 in Lamar County, Texas.

He married Amanda [Surname Unknown].

He died 22 May 1931 in Lamar County, Texas.

He's buried in the Hopewell Cemetery.



3.  LILLIAN ANN COUCH

Born 1871 in Lamar County, Texas.

She married [First Name Unknown] Brackeen.



4.  WILLIAM G. COUCH [WILLY]

Born 1873 in Lamar County, Texas.



Military


<James was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. He enlisted in Texas.

He served from 1862 until 1865 in Company B, Alexanders Regiment in the Texas Cavalry.

His right hand had been shot which left it crippled and useless.



Religion


It is assumed that they belonged to the Church of Christ.

No church records have been located yet.



Deaths


Martha died about 1876 in Texas.


James died 6 February 1916 in Arthur City, Lamar County, Texas.



Other Information


James was a farmer by trade.


In 1904, James Couch owned 5 head of cattle valued at $40.00, 2 horses valued at $100.00, and his household and kitchen furniture was valued at $40.00.


James received a pension from the Civil War until his death at which time his second wife applied for and received it.
