It is reported that one of John Doty's sons died
fighting with his father in 1757.
It may possibly have been this son, John.

John died on 9 Nov 1757 near the Delaware River. He was killed by Indians.The date and place of Ocie's death is unknown.
| Other Information |
John Doty was a very civic minded man, interested in and active in all areas of government. He was intelligent and enterprising. His children were well educated and followed in their father's manner of thinking.Among some papers of James Alexander (Lord Stirling) now in the New Jersey Historical Society of Newark, New Jersey, there is a lease for 24 March 1739 from James Alexander to John Doty of Basking Ridge, N.J. for 800 acres there. The lease was up for renewal on 24 July 1746 when notice was served, and John signed the new lease 28 Feb 1747.
John met an untimely death in the prime of life when he was killed by the Indians in one of the Indian wars near the Delaware River in 1757. His widow continued to raise their large family in the tradition started at their birth. They were all useful citizens of their society of the day.
It is reported that Ocie Skillman is of Dutch origin.
