Thomas died on 4 June 1820, at his home on Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.It has been reported that chunks of his broken tombstone were being used to border a flower bed in a nearby farm yard.

Mary died on 21 July 1826, at her home on Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.She is buried in the Harned Family Cemetery near Old Boston, Nelson County, Kentucky.

Thomas and Mary's daughter, Mary Newman, went to Illinois in 1818 with her husband, Jonathan Parker along with his parents, James Parker and Anna Doty.
