THOMAS NEWMAN and MARY (HARNED? - WILSON?)
are my husbands Paternal 3rd Grandparents.

Their daughter, SARAH NEWMAN, is my husbands
2nd Great-Grandmother.

THOMAS NEWMAN was born in 1744
in Bohemia Manor, Cecil County, Maryland.

He is the son of JONATHAN NEWMAN and
ANN MARTHA HAWKINS.

MARY (HARNED? - WILSON?) was born 2 Jan 1748
in Botetourt County, Virginia.

Her parents names are still unknown.

Bohemia Manor, Cecil County, Maryland;  Hartford, Maryland;  Botetourt County, Virginia.  Thomas and Mary moved to Nelson County, Kentucky, about 1785.

Thomas married Mary on 1 May 1767, at the age of 22, in Botetourt County, Virginia.

Thomas and Mary were the parents of 12 Children:

1.  JONATHAN NEWMAN

Born 11 Sept 1769 in
Botetourt County, Virginia.

He is said to have been killed by Indians
in Bullitt County, Virginia, 1816-1819.

2.  NANCY ANN NEWMAN

Born 17 Oct 1771 in
Catawba Creek, Finecastle, Botetourt County, Virginia.

She married WILLIAM LUCE on 7 Mar 1788
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

They were both of Baptist faith.

She died 8 Sept 1836 in Muhlenburg County, Kentucky.

She is buried near Skillsville,
in the Old Midway Baptist Cemetery in Butler, Ohio.

3.  ELIZABETH NEWMAN

Born 20 Mar 1773 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

She married DANIEL RHOADS on 10 Mar 1794
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

She died 28 Feb 1855 in Edgar County, Illinois.

She is buried in the Ogden Cemetery
(5 mi. SW of Paris, Illinois)

4.  ISAAC NEWMAN

Born 7 June 1775 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

He married:
(1) RACHEL RHOADS on 10 Nov 1797 in Logan Co., Ky
(2) NANCY UNSELL on 9 Nov 1823.

Isaac served in the Cornstalk Militia, 1797.

He was a farmer and was affiliated with the Baptist Church.

He died 14 Sept 1862.

He is buried in the Newman Cemetery
on Hwy. 431, near Penrod, Kentucky.

5.  THOMAS M. NEWMAN

Born 16 July 1777 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

He married
(1) ELIZABETH LOVELACE in 1797.

They lived in Grayson County, Kentucky,
then in Muhlenburg County, Ky.,
where he is probably buried.

6.  GEORGE NEWMAN

Born 8 Nov 1779 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

He married:
(1) BATHSHEBA LOVELACE on 21 Nov 1801 in Hardin Co., Ky.
(2) MARY MAGDALEN HAGEN

7.  MARY F. NEWMAN

Born 13 May 1782 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

She married JONATHAN PARKER on 29 May 1804
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

She died on 13 Sept. 1824
probably in childbirth or shortly after.

8.  SARAH NEWMAN

Born 1 Oct 1784 in
Catawba Creek, Botetourt County, Virginia.

She married SAMUEL PARKER on 8 Sept 1808
in Butler County, Ohio.

(Samuel was the brother of Jonathan Parker,
who married Sarah's sister, Mary).

9.  JACOB NEWMAN

Born 5 Jan 1786 in
Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

He married
(1) SARAH "SALLY" ROSS on 3 Mar 1817 in Nelson Co., Ky.
(2) REBECCA BRADLEY on 10 April 1826 in Hardin Co., Ky.

10.  RACHEL NEWMAN

Born 11 Sept 1788 in
Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

She married COLEMORE LOVELACE on 14 Oct 1816
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

(Colemore was Postor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church
in Hardin, County, Kentucky).

Rachel died on 14 Sept 1824 in Hardin County, Kentucky.

11.  LYDIA NEWMAN

Born 11 Set 1788 in
Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

She was a twin to Rachel Newman.
She never married.

She died on 18 Apr 1820 in Nelson County, Kentucky.

12.  JOHN NEWMAN

Born 24 Aug 1791 near
Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

He married AMELIA "MILLIE" RILEY on 23 Nov 1812
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

He died on 25 Apr 1859 at Newman Homestead.

He is buried at Little Brick Church Cemetery
in Nelson County, Kentucky.

Thomas Newman was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War.  He served in the infantry from Virginia.

Thomas Newman was Christened 16 May 1744 at St. George Protestant Ep. In Hartford, Maryland.  Most of the children were affiliated with the Baptist Church.

Thomas died on 4 June 1820, at his home on Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

It has been reported that chunks of his broken tombstone were being used to border a flower bed in a nearby farm yard.

Mary died on 21 July 1826, at her home on Lick Creek, Nelson County, Kentucky.

She is buried in the Harned Family Cemetery near Old Boston, Nelson County, Kentucky.

Thomas and Mary's daughter, Mary Newman, went to Illinois in 1818 with her husband, Jonathan Parker along with his parents, James Parker and Anna Doty.
