JACOB MATHIAS SCHUCK was born 19 March, 1821
in Sienerhöfe, Birkenfeld, Rheinland-Pfalz, in the Kingdom of Prussia.

(Sienerhöfe is about 30-40 miles outside Trier and is about 10 miles from Ulmet).

CAROLINA ALLES was born 5 June 1825 in Ulmet, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

She was Baptized 27 June 1825 in Katholisch, Offenbach Am Glan, Rheinland-Pfalz, Prussia



Immigration


Jacob and Carolina immigrated to the U.S. in 1847.  They departed from Le Havre, France.  They arrived in New York, New York on 25 June 1847.



Residence


After their arrival in the U.S., Jacob and Carolina moved directly to Marion Township, Mercer County, Ohio where they engaged in farming.

They purchased some land on 15 May 1848 consisting of 236 acres for $650.00.

They sold their farm on 5 April 1883.

They then moved to the town of Newton in Ford County, Kansas. There, they purchased a house on 9 May 1883 and lived there for the remainder of their lives.



Marriage


Jacob Mathias Schuck and Carolina Alles were married 21 April 1846 in the Catholic Church in Kusel, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany.  Their Witnesses were Joseph Alles and Franciska Deubel.

The couple had to be granted special permission by the bishop of the Catholic Church to marry because they were related to each other.

The same ancestry (relatives) they share (4 or 5 generations back) are:
JOHANN BARTHOLOMEW FETZER born 5 Mar 1713) and ANNA MARGARETHA EYDT (born 30 May 1718).

They also share Johann's parents, JOHANN PETER FETZER and ANNA CATHARINA (UNKNOWN).



Children


It has been told that Jacob and Carolina had a total of 15 children born but only 10 of them lived until adulthood:


1.  CAROLINA SCHUCK

Born 6 January 1847 in Ulmet, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

She died 16 March 1847 in Ulmet, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
at the age of 2-1/2 months of age.

She was buried on 18 Mar 1847 in Ulmet, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.



2.  JACOB JOSEPH SCHUCK

Born January 1848 in Mercer County, Ohio.

He married Susanne/Susanna A. Studer (1850-1926) in 1872.
She died 8 May 1912 in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.

Jacob died 17 Feb 1911 at the age of 62 years
in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.

He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.



3.  MARY ANNA SCHUCK

Born 10 April 1850 in Marion Township, Mercer County, Ohio.

She died at a young age shortly before her 16th birthday on 22 March 1866 in Mercer County, Ohio.

She is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Celina, Mercer, Ohio/



4.  MARGARETHA SCHUCK

Born 04 August 1852 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.

She married in 1872 to Joseph Konrad Zender (1847-1892) in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.
He died 21 January 1892 in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.

Margaretha died 15 December 1892 in Newton, Harvey, Kansas at the age of 40 years.

She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.



5.  CATHERINE ("Kate") SCHUCK

Born 25 January 1853 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.

She married Wilhelm Frey (1855-1930) in 1879.

She died 05 May 1918 in Waterloo, Kingman, Kansas at the age of 65 years.

She is buried in Waterloo, Kingman, Kansas.



6.  AGATHA CAROLINE ("Cal") SCHUCK

Born 25 August 1854 in Mercer County, Ohio.

She married Valentine Wourms (1852-1925) in 1879 in Sharpsburg, Athens, Ohio.

She died 14 September 1940 in Newton, Harvey, Kansas at the age of 86 years.

She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.



7.  LAWRENCE SCHUCK

Born 1857 in Mercer County, Ohio.

He died 04 February 1912 at the age of 55 years in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.



8.  CLARA SCHUCK

Born 1859 in Marion Township, Mercer County, Ohio.

She died at a young age of approximately 7 years on 23 March 1866 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.



9.  JOSEPH SCHUCK

Born 15 August 1861 in Mercer,County, Ohio.

He married in 1886 to Alice Unknown (1868- ).

He died 29 December 1921 in Lancaster, Lancaster, Nebraska at the age of 60 years.

He is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska.



10.  CAROLINA SCHUCK

Born 13 Niovember 1867 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.

She died 13 November 1867 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio the same day as her birth.



11.  JOHN ADAM SCHUCK

Born 13 November 1867 in Celina, Mercer, Ohio.
He was apparently a twin to his sister, Carolina, who was born and died the same day.

He married Susanna Unknown.



12.  MARY CATHERINE SCHUCK

Born 18 August 1869 in Jefferson Township, Mercer, Ohio.

She married John Henry Tasset (1860-1932) on 12 February 1891 in Denver, Colorado.

She died 12 December 1954 in Denver, Colorado at he age of 85 years.

She is buried in Mt. Olivett Cemetery in Wheatridge, Jefferson, Colorado.

NOTE:  On 05 July 1920, Mother Ignatius of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart brought a blood stained handkerchief, which belonged to Mother Cabrini, to John Henry Tasset in hopes of a miraculous intervention.  The handkerchief was gifted to the family.

Mary Catherine Schuck wrote a letter on 05 September 1920 describing her observations on the miracle of her husband John Henry Tasset.  This miracle, and one other family miracle, led to the canonization of Mother Cabrini as a Catholic saint.  A copy of the letter can been read by  "Clicking Here".



Military


Family tradition tells that Jacob was raised in Germany and became an officer in the Prussian Army.
It is reported that he was an aide to the Czar of Germany.



Religion


They belonged to the Roman Catholic Church.



Deaths


JACOB MATHIAS SCHUCK died 16 January 1903 at 82 years
in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.

He is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

CAROLINA ALLES died nine years later on 8 May 1912
in Newton, Harvey, Kansas.

She is buried next to her husband in St. Mary's Cemetery.
